Play Therapy
Play therapy gives children a natural means for self-expression. Play allows them to express feelings that might otherwise be overwhelming. It provides a safe environment and helps shield the child from even the most intense or overwhelming feelings.
From the start of therapy, children are given permission to use any and all the items in the playroom. They can choose from nurturing or fantasy toys, puppets, artistic tools, games, and sand tray. There are many choices to provide for different forms of expression.
As the therapist, I am giving the child a strong sense of acceptance and understanding. Through their play, they then are able to move toward a greater sense of self-acceptance and self-understanding.
