EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychological based therapy that helps a person see disturbing material in a new and less disturbing way. When we dream, we naturally experience rapid eye movement (REM). EMDR is similar to REM in that it seems to have a direct effect on the way that the brain processes information.

EMDR is only used after careful consideration as to the appropriateness of its use for a specific problem. EMDR allows the client to remember a specific event, but without the triggering effects of the emotional, upsetting feelings that go along with the event.

Research has deemed EMDR an effective therapeutic method for use with clients suffering from PTSD. It has also been reported helpful for other conditions such as: panic attacks, phobias, stress reduction, performance anxiety, and eating disorders.
